Except for a short, light mist this morning, the rain has held off for about 24 hours now - a record for the week! Took the doggies for a 2-mile walk and then began the yardwork. Finished the front while it was still mostly shaded and then took a break for breakfast/lunch. I'll finish up this entry and head out to get the rest done.
For the last month, DH has been pondering retirement sometime next year. This was a surprise to me, as we haven't talked about it at all prior to this. The more he talked to people on our vacation, the more it seemed like he was decisive about it. One year! Yikes!!!
In the last day or so, he's been thinking about other aspects and now it seems he'll continue working for a few more years, taking him right up to the employment limit for the military. I'm much more in favor of that, but as the not-currently-employed-outside-the-home spouse, I feel it's not my call.
Now, that he's strongly leaning toward continuing working, I've been vocal about my support for that position, as it gives us a specific target that we should have a reasonable amount of time to finish preparing for. That was my big concern....once you retire from the military and make certain decisions, there's no going back. You don't want to be in a position 5 or 10 years from now, saying, "Gee, I really should have kept working those couple extra years..."
And, if he stays with this decision, then I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that they don't move him next summer. If they don't, there's every reason to believe they'll leave him in place for the remainder of his career. One less move would be WONDERFUL!!!
