If you don't lift weights for any other reason, do it just because you can burn more calories while just sitting like a lump lol.

It's not that weight lifting "speeds up your metabolism" as everyone usually says... The reason the people on here who do resistance training tend to have a higher daily intake is because their muscles need more calories to repair after workouts and require more calories to prevent the muscles from eating themselves (that's called "catabolism").

You also have the fact that benching 250 pounds for 15 reps requires more energy than benching 100 for 15 reps. That adds up over time. So more strength/muscle is a big deal.

With a spotter doing 80% of the work, I think I could do 100# for 5 reps 😭

You guys crack me up! Chris thanks for the NEAT explanation! I know it as Basal Metabolic Rate & mine is at a pathetic 1470 according to my new Innotech scale. Guess I better brush my teeth again! Lol I would love to lift heavy as everyone says. I lifted my grocery bag a few times while walking up the stairs (instead of taking the elevator) & I'm STILL paying for it, with the lovely addition of tennis elbow (& I don't even play tennis!) 3 days later. Sadly, it's typical of Fibromyalgia though, bc on the same day I vacuumed the place & I did "too much". Even sadder, I used to be really active, I swam, bicycled, skied, danced, etc. You just never know what life holds. I just have to deal with it the best I can & keep my sense of humor. I just want to build more muscle like you said, so on days when I'm the lump on the couch, I'll be burning more calories than now.

Oh btw Chris, a little psych trick to never lose your keys - even though I know you were probably joking about losing them. When you pick them up, look at your hand holding the keys & say "keys". Same thing when you put them down, & make sure it's always the same place (like a key hook by the front door). 😉
