Utterly discouraged. Just got the results of my blood draw back, and it's incredibly disappointing. Everything's still in range, yes, but my triglycerides jumped and my HDL went down. My body fat percentage is nowhere near where I'd like it to be, although it's still within the very top of the range for my age. I got into this for my health more than my weight, so it's a bit distressing to backslide on that.

I wonder how much of it was that I got really off track this summer with all the travel and then with getting sick. Need to double down and figure out what I want to do. Watch the sugar and bread, get some strength training in, start doing higher intensity aerobic exercise. Maybe cut back on refined oil (not that I use a lot). Debating about eggs and fish. My numbers were better when I wasn't really eating those as much.

I found some workouts on the PopSugar YouTube channel that look good that I can start doing in the mornings at my house before work. The first one I'm going to try is a 10-minute upper body strength one. I've definitely fallen down on the job when it comes to strength training. Going out after work to buy a desperately needed pair of running shoes.

The good news is, my B12 and folate are just fine, even though I don't eat a lot of animal products these days. I got both my husband and I tested on that one, just to get a baseline.

I had the same problem when I was on a vegetarian diet and it is not uncommon. Articles like this helped me understand what occurred with me. Maybe you might see something in them that applies to you. I think you have mentioned some really good ideas. Good luck! https://thisdishisvegetarian.com/why-do-vegans-have-high-triglycerides/ https://vegfaqs.com/vegan-diet-triglycerides/ https://www.mygenefood.com/blog/why-are-my-triglyceride-levels-so-high/

Thanks, Morticia. I'll check those out! The interesting thing is, I've actually been eating more fish and eggs the last couple of months, and I had to resort to dairy and meat at times when traveling.

I was curious about vegan duets and was going to try it a few months back. Then, I got my bloods back and found out that I turned everything around just by cutting out processed foods and sugars. I eat 1.4lbs of meat per day (80% chicken) and labs are the best they have ever been as an adult. I'm not saying vegan or vegetarian diets are wrong or would make my labs worse because I haven't tried them. However, I enjoy my diet and personally don't see a need to change it. Try experimenting and see what works best for you and your body.

@Morticia: Booze and lack of exercise can elevate Trig levels, and candy is vegan, so if you do all three of those, it won't matter what kind of diet you follow. I'm not saying that Writingwyo did any of these, but she did write that her Trigs are still within normal range. Also, vegetarians can overdo it with cheese and really jack up their LDL & Trigs -- just like meat eaters can. But overall, vegans & vegetarians have much lower rates of obesity, heart disease and chronic illnesses.

Like you, UnhealthyDad, I like my diet and see no reason to change it. I really don't care for meat, and I also have some ethical reasons to minimize it that I don't go into on FS. I was doing well the last time I was checked, when I was being stricter. I don't drink, only eat cheese on rare occasions, and don't buy vegan processed foods to speak of, but I probably have been getting into sweets a little more than advisable. Could stand to increase the exercise as well.

Step 1 is covered WWY, which is facing the challenge head on, I know you will conquer this by God's grace, and I'm lifting you in prayer🙏🏽.

I wouldn't worry if your numbers are still in an acceptable range. My cholesterol (I forget which parts) numbers were just a little high a couple of times and the foods my doctor told me to avoid were red meat, eggs and shrimp. I stopped them for 6 months and the next time all numbers were fine. I think he also said to exercise for at least 30 minutes at least 5 times a week. I know you don't eat red meat. Sometimes it isn't the diet that causes the numbers to change. You have a really healthy WOE.

adding more fiber from food or a supplement will help with your cholesterol I use chia seeds 2 tbls to 16 oz of bottled water a day and all good

I am surprised with your WOE that your numbers changed even being in range. I hope you can figure out what will get things shifted around!:) Hugs!

I'm sorry you're disappointed but it sounds like you have a great attitude about it all. I hope you can figure out what works for you :)

Thanks, Fritzy. Yeah, they're still in more than acceptable range... just distressed me that they went the wrong direction! I'm guessing it was the excess sugar and stress and travel, etc. these last few months. Since the end of June, I took 5 trips -- 2 personal, 2 for work, and one combined work/personal. I was on the road an awful lot.

mountainman, I supposed I could, but I typically get more than 40 grams a day fiber already. I've probably eaten a little less than that over the last few weeks, so probably just need to get back at it. Navywifeski -- thanks! I'm pretty sure I need to cut sugar and add more exercise at this point. honeebuns -- didn't get my vitamin D checked, as that's $70 my insurance won't pay for and I take supplements. I'm 3 years+ past menopause now. I did notice when I hit menopause that my lipid levels went up. Still in more than acceptable range, but higher than they were pre-menopausal. AshesAwesome -- thanks! After this chaotic few months, I think I'll be OK if I just get back to basics :)
