Almost embarrassed to post this one. This week was a total loss for a number of reasons: boredom overeating while camping, a special occasion meal with a friend, and poor sleep. Yesterday, decided to go cold turkey on caffeine to try to address the sleep issues. It was painful, but feeling much better this morning. Also didn't exercise much and missed workouts. Ready to do better this week.

Thanks, buenitabishop 😊 OTB -- cold turkey is, alas, the only thing that works for me. I have a terrible caffeine addiction, and am never able to cut back slowly. A single cup is the camel's nose in the tent. The pounding headache is gone, but the depression has set in. Ugh. I'd strangle my dearest friend for a Diet Coke about now 😂 Going to try to get motivated for a walk.

haha yeah I get ya I cut all my caffeine for 4 days leading up to my race in July knowing dehydration would be a big issue for that one and it was rough lol. I keep a steady stream of caffeine in me throughout the day normaly🙄ohh well gotta have some sort of vice lol

I'd be happy to keep it as one of my fee remaining vices if I could just sleep. If this doesn't fix the sleep troubles, I'll go right back to it with a vengeance

honeebuns -- I had a similar experience when I went to AZ for my brother's wedding a few years ago. All they had in the house was decaf, and everyone was so busy getting ready for the wedding that I didn't want to be difficult and ask someone to make a special trip to get me some of the real stuff. Painful! 😂

Maybe I did, Morticia, but eating badly didn't make me feel all that great. Unfortunately, I tend to eat my way through caffeine withdrawal. Going to accept it for a day or two, as the higher priority is to get off the stuff

Coffee. Ah coffee. Have cut consumption considerably, but will not omit altogether from intake. What I do try is if I want the 2nd cup during the day, it can't be after 3PM else it keeps me awake at bedtime. Funny how the body changes as one ages. Was a time I could have an espresso at midnight and be sound asleep shortly after.

Wishing you success with the sleep issues. My Restless Legs are a battle every single day! But switching to decaf has certainly helped. Every once in a while, usually when traveling to my daughter's house an hour away, I splurge on an 'skinny' iced mocha from the latte stand🧋

Actually a week, johncip. Most of it, anyway. I'll try to see it as a win that the scale wasn't any worse!

Ann - I tried no caffeine after 8 a.m. for a while, but fell off that wagon. I truly can't moderate the stuff.

honeebuns -- I sort of went cold turkey about 25 years ago. Luckily, I had already been drinking half-caff for years before. I work at home as a writer, and I used to make a 9-cup pot every morning and drink it myself; if I was writing on deadline, I'd make a 2d pot and drink it til I finished and went to bed. But I came to the conclusion that drinking so much coffee was creating some physical symptoms I won't go into here, and I just quit. I was steeling myself for terrible headaches and all kinds of pain and suffering, but for some reason I was OK. Nowadays, I allow myself one double decaf cappuccino each week, and sometimes, if I go out for breakfast or dinner with friends, I'll have a cup of decaf. But there are actually weeks when I don't have any at all. I think I am really lucky that I was able to quit with no ill effects!

I have really bad sleep issues. I wake up at around 1 am and sometimes I can go back to sleep but never past 4 am. Sometimes it's as early as 2am! I found that if I take a walk after dinner that I am able to sleep better. I still don't go past 4 but it's not as interrupted. Now I can still have my morning coffee! I have no doubt you will get back on track. You got this!
