I really like cornbread and bread of All sorts really I think it rounds out a meal when you can fit it into your woe. Lately I've been trying to increase my carbs a little bit and decrease my protein it seems to have really been helping my energy stores and it hasn't affected my weight at all. Eating seems to tire me out if that makes any sense. I really need to follow Diana1234's advice and call My Health provider to see if I qualify for a dietitian just to make sure that I'm not hurting myself by following the general public's advice for health and not a specialized plan I just never seem to have enough time of the day to get everything I need to get done done.

Healthier carbs with that are lower on the glycemic scale or whose glycemic index is lower. Lower saturated fats, proteins sourced from a combo of plant and animal based. Older people don’t need a lot of iron unless they have a known issue but younger women, pregnant, breastfeeding, menstruating need at least 18 mg a day. Lean beef is the cold standard followed by the usual, fish. Pork and chicken. This is called heme iron (heme meaning blood). Plant based (non heme iron works but not as well as animal based.. nutrition is complicated and many really could benefit from some knowledgeable help, especially if you have background medical issues. Do not rely on advice from the general public. In reality most actually probably know less than you do. It’s the Fat Secret see one, do one teach one that can screw you up.

Excellent advice Kenna. My mother and grandmother were both diabetics and I learned a lot from them at a young age. I try to keep my animal protein up, my fiber up, try to limit starchy veggies as much as possible, and only small amounts of rice/pasta/high carb foods. Breads are a weakness but had been doing pretty well. I do eat a lot of dairy and fruits. I was always anemic when I was younger, but that isnt an issue anymore. These days it is Vitamin D I am deficient in. Definitely trying to do better all the time. Appreciate your knowledge! Thank you :)

Hi Leah! Im trying to up my protein. But carbs are my delight, LOL. You most certainly have your hands full. I worry sometimes that your boss is a bit hard on you. Am glad Ryan is so helpful tho at home. That is wonderful. I hope you can find the diet plan that works nutritionally for you in your health situation. Maybe a B complex supplement might help? Hope you have the very best evening and get to rest a bit! Hugs!

It's not to say that I don't plan to continue consuming quality protein but rather that I plan to cut back a little and to increase complex carbohydrates in my diet. I rarely eat any carbohydrates with the exception of course of fruits and vegetables which of course as you are probably where well aware I ate plenty of. On an average day my minimum protein is about 70 g with an upwards amount of about 130 g considering the small calorie allotment I allow myself of between 1600 and 1800 calories on a high energy day that's quite a bit of protein. And I feel that my body is just having a hard time digesting that amount of protein and it's not as necessary when you consider that I'm not trying to build massive amounts of muscle but rather maintain my muscle that I've already built and build small amounts of muscle over time. I think that my body would find it more beneficial to have the energy from the carbohydrates to fuel me throughout the day and maintain my energy source. One problem I have is that I don't absorb many nutrients very well due to the autoimmune disorders I've tried the variety of supplements before but I just don't absorb many nutrients and pill form although I would like to try a magnesium supplement and it B vitamin complex wouldn't be out of the way. I would like to get them through my insurance company as many of these things are expensive and I have a limited budget.

I am very anemic and there was a term for it on my mychart page I will try to look it up later today. Something about my cells being too big I think anywho the doctor said that despite my increase in proteins and iron that it's unlikely to go away and that taking an iron pill would be unlikely to change it because I wouldn't absorb the iron pill in the intestines because of my quick metabolism would cause it just be digested and removed through the waste process too quickly 🤷. As for Joey I get a little frustrated with him as well particularly because I keep asking for help in the position that I'm in and I receiving statements things like we'll make me a list or what do you expect me to do with the people that we have and the money that we pay we can't get any better people...

Leah__guffrey—a high MCV on your blood count test is called macrocytosis - is a condition where there is a problem with cell production in the bone marrow. It can be caused from multiple things —- I’m doing this on the fly so you may want to read up on it—-things like vit B12 and folate deficiency, liver disease and some medications. Depending how your hgb (hemoglobin) on your test is you may need further iron studies . I also don’t completely agree with his comment about the iron supplements. You need to see a hematologist in order to fully determine the cause. Meantime evaluate your diet for iron— @least 18 mg a day.( both plant(non-heme) and animal (heme). Make sure you are taking at least a multivitamin containing vitamins B12, folate and vitamine C. Your body needs vit C to metabolize iron.. if you have any question I will be happy to try to help. If I don’t have a reasonable answer I can do some research a bit for you. I think I have more time than you do.

You were correct it was the MCV score that was too high it was 110 which was in the yellow the last two blood test (year span). The test did mention Macrocytosis in the blip as well. I wish my doctor would talk about the test results but it hard to understand what he means and keep him on topic. He always is distracted with his current research paperwork and new medical breakthroughs that it's very hard to get through to him. I do take folate and it seems to be effective because my electric scale ⚖️ shows an increase in bone density over the last year... How it can tell that from my feet I'm not sure. 🤷🤔 I'll work on trying to get insurance to pay for more vitamins. Not sure how much vitamin C and iron I consume daily I'll have to be more diligent on recording and try to get an estimate of each.

Don’t get consumed with the numbers. Look up foods high in iron and if you are eating fruits and vegetables you are probably getting enough. Many foods have small amounts of iron but it adds up over the course of the day. Meat, of course, being the gold standard, dark green leafy vegetables most nuts, dried fruit. Do you have actual health insurance or are you on some sort of state plan. My insurance gives me $50 a month to pay for vitamins, OTC meds, even toothpaste and toothbrushes. It may just be a California thing.. the key to working with a doc like that is to go in with a written list of things that you want answered or you would like to talk about and let him know that you have an agenda.. If he gets way off track pull him back to your topic. You need to learn to advocate for yourself in that regard. Keep reminding yourself that he works for you. I will never have all the answers but I know where to look for them.

The nurse practitioner who put my port explained more to me about my condition then my neurologist ever has 😂. I think he trys...he explains things using weird stories that don't make sense using his past experiences and research papers that are being currently discussed it's really quite hard to follow. I try to go in with objectives... My main one was to get my immune suppressant changed which was sorta successful??? It supposed to change but my appointment with the other doctor has been delayed so the change is also delayed/sigh 😔. Otherwise the upped my meds to better manage symptoms. I would like for my care team to look for more treatment and less symptoms management but I feel like every time I mention it I'm redirected to other topics. 🤷🤔
