what exactly do you do whenever you go out of town and while youre there, you have a ritualistic mexican food restaurant that you LOVE to eat at, you're going tomorrow and hubby wants to eat there but you KNOW you cannot set there and pig out on chips and salsa or regular bazillion calorie meal? I want to eat some chips and salsa but I could also eat some salad or something too. Could this possibly be a semi solution to my problem?

Soup and salad, eaten slowly & savoured. Limit yourself to one bowl of chips to share with hubby. Heap on the salsa (very healthy & light) Enjoy each bite. Have a good workout the next day (or that night with hubby). You need to simply alter the ritual, not delete it. Otherwise, you'll really crave it worse than ever.

What I do when I go to my favorite restaurant, I order something semi decent and then only eat half and take the rest home. I usually send the leftovers with hubby to work for lunch the next day.

Oh man, you guys have great self control to do that! If it was me, I would think: "I never get to come out here, so when I go to my fave mex rest I'm going to eat whatever I want and enjoy it!" Then I would go for an extra run that week. One day of cheating a week doesn't make a difference in the long run, unless you're the type of person who can't limit yourself to just one day of cheating.
