How did I set my metabolism? In January I went down to a 1200 calorie diet and exercised like a fool. I lost less weight than ever for my efforts. My body thought it was starving and so every week I had to increase what I ate (and how I exercised) until I found my "Maintenance Level". By doing so gradually, I was still losing a fraction and by summer I was satisfied somewhat with my weight at 140 or so. I then continued to eat mindfully through the week and had indulgences on the weekend. So up and down through the summer. Now I am ready to take off a few pounds and It shouldn't take very long now that body metabolism is reset. I think that perhaps this time I will take it easy and alternate days of extreme calorie deficits. Maybe exercise and 1700 calories and 1200 alternate days so the body knows it is getting fed and not slowing my metabolic rate for survival.
