I keep thinking of that old saying, "Back in the saddle again." I am doing my best to get back into ketosis. It's funny how sensitive I am to the changes in my body now. I can feel the difference between my body with ANY little amount of sugar vs when I am eating clean.

I think the reason I got so frustrated about this sugar incident is because it was unintentional. It feels unfair. I don't mean to sound whiny it is just that I know I am going to have plenty of days where I will be tempted to stray from program; and to be derailed by accident doesn't feel right. I think it is important that I understand where these feelings are coming from.

I think I have a real problem with seeing food as a reward or an indulgence and not just fuel. I think I am so upset because I am secretly thinking that if I am going to go out of ketosis it should be for some "good food" or for a "treat" instead of seeing food as something that I use for fuel; and knowing that some of it is better for me than others. In other words, I am still giving "forbidden" foods too much power.

I can't relate as far as Atkins & ketosis goes, though I do realize there is a delicate balance that has to be maintained to stay in ketosis. And I don't think it's a bad thing to dwell (just a bit!) on the sugar incident because obviously there's something that needs to be resolved there. I don't know WHAT, but perhaps you can do a post-mortem & break it down to figure out what is REALLY bothering you about it. It seems like you did all you could by removing the bread & ordering diet soda, so maybe you need to let it go. Or maybe you could figure out some preventative measures to take to better handle the unexpected, like eating before going out if that's possible, & dropping some Atkins-friendly snacks in your purse. There's no harm in sitting with it a while, as long as you decide you ARE going to let it go at some point so you can move forward. My view of food is not that it's just fuel. Right or wrong, this is the perspective I choose to take. I love it, & it is meant to be enjoyed, I don't bribe myself with it & I don't use it to deal with my feelings so I feel it's ok. The difference between old me & new me is that now I choose to eat healthier food. It's still delicious & I still love it, it's just different stuff. And if I choose to have an indulgent treat like cake, I require myself to offset it by decreased calories eaten or more calories burned on the same day or at least the same week. I don't think that's bribery, I think it's an informed choice. But again, I'm not on Atkins & I know there are certain foods that you just can't have & still be in ketosis. Anyway...just my random thoughts...you'll figure it out hon. :)

Katekat, it is so frustrating when we are doing everything we are "supposed" to be doing and something sneaks up and bites us in the rear. How much water did you drink yesterday? If you drank more than usual, the keto stix may not show ketosis, because your urine is so diluted. Just like if you don't drink enough and are dehydrated they will show that you are heavy into ketosis, even if you aren't. And diet soda can cause some people to get false neg readings on the ketostix. I would rely more on how you feel and your weight loss. If you are losing, you are in ketosis, no matter what the stix show. If you feel bloated, then maybe you didn't get enough of your veggies yesterday. Or maybe it was just the carbonation in the soda. That is one of the major reasons I quit drinking soda, diet or not, because it blows me up like a balloon! Regardless, if you did not do anything that is different intentionally, and you followed your lifestyle the way you were supposed to, then let it go. You cannot change yesteray, and tomorrow is uncertain. The only thing we have control over is the here and now, so quite worrying and concentrate on today!! You are making a lifestyle change, it isn't a race and there is no deadline, so realx, do what you need to do, and enjoy!!
