We're having my son's birthday party today (He's a new year baby). We're grilling, so I'm not to worried, but there will be chips and pop, and of course cake. Then later in the month is my daughters birthday, my anniversary, and my nephews birthday. All these celebrations that center on good food!

Happy birthday to your son! Yeah, it's hard to decide when to make exceptions, and when there are just too many exceptions. But a healthy mom is a better gift to your son and daughter than eating a ton of their cake. :) One way to think about it maybe.

All of my celebrations center on food too, we are Italian and love to eat for any reason, haha. I have found that the way to control my intake is to first have some kind of food there that i know i can eat and look forward to. I have found Special K (kellogg's) chips are better in calories and replace them for the high calorie ones. Skip all sodas unless you can go with the diet ones. Eat the cake!! JUST COUNT IT. Have 1/2 the size that you would normally eat and record the calories. Plan for the meal ahead of time and try to fill up on the veggies if they are there or eat something before you go to the celebration so you are not so tempted to eat everything there because you are hungry. Little tips. Hope they help.

Thanks! Those are all good ideas :) CCerza my husband's family is Italian and yes anytime to get together and eat lol

OK. This may be a stretch and personally, I have never tried this, but what if you were to mimic the way your son (and daughter) ate during these celebrations. Kids are picky by nature and it would be interesting to see what it is like to copy their eating habits - at least for one day.

Eat lots of veggies, salad, pasta in measured amounts is good, I've eaten whole grain pasta my entire weight loss journey, go easy on the bread, make a fruit salad (leftovers can be used in smoothies) eat a tiny piece of birthday cake. Once you quit eating sweets even a small piece can be overwhelming.
